[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista
I saw these once-identical houses during a city-stroll last week.
The one on the left (17) was kept in the same look the house was designed in, tidy, repainted and all ornaments (even the half that doesn't belong to them) in their original splendor.
The neighbours decided to "renovate"to their liking, changed door and windows so they look ill-placed and out of proportion, cemented everything as plainly as possible and forgot to look after the front ever since.
Such a negligance in my eyes is a crime, a slap in the face of the designer to start with.
The name of the house (the dragon, he can be seen on the ornament in the middle of the two houses) is most probably taken from the name of the street (Draakstraat or Dragon-street)
There isn't much I can do to reverse the situation and return the house in its original state, but the least I can do is to voice my protest through these pictures.

PP: I had to recover the right perspective in the picture, there still is some, but otherwise the balcony wouldn't be complete.
Because of the short days with an early sinking sun, the bottom half of the picture was much darker than the top half, which I corrected with curves.
For further enhancement I copied the original layer and applied cut-out, which was then blended with the original and flattened. Copied again, applied photocopy to give nice dividing lines, blended again. (don't remember which blending mode and percentage)
I know there's a fat black line crosiing the picture (powersupply for the tram that runs through this street) but I felt it belonged to the "uglyness" of the view, so I left it as it was.

Very nice observation, Walter! I like how you made the different lines stand out. The lone Vespa is a nice touch. Good work, and good note!

TFS, (*_*)

I understand the sentiment and am sympathetic. Nothing any of us can do about it but it is a great shame. The butchered facade and subsequent neglect is a disgrace.
Well recorded and I am also glad to see the 'Wasp' parked up.

A nice entry for the scav.hunt Contrasts theme, Walter. Don't forget to add it!
A shame indeed, but... as long as modifications to the outer parts of the house are licensed by the city council, there's not much anyone can do :(. For me, the ugly top-to-bottom lettering someone applied there is reason enough for a law-suit ;o)).
TFS

This is incredible. I showed the photo to my wife and she descibed the house of an old professor in Antwerp who lived in a similarly "modernized" house. She thinks the changes were made in the 1930's. What were these people thinking? Obviously, the house on the right is in disrepair, but I wonder if the interior has any interest. Probably not.

Very interesting photo.

Regards, Randy

Bah, wat een mormel hebben ze ervan gemaakt. I don't understand how people can do that. Doesn't the city council have to approve the changes to the front ?

Very sad picture...

Anyway,
good capture.

Well-spotted contrast, Walter. Well done.
Alla.

Indeed Walter, a slap in the face of the architect but also for the people who -live-, work and are there for a short visit. These kind of buildings should be "protected", in Holland renovation is allowed but you have to restore the original design and construction, only improvements. I think by repairs just like they did / allowed with the right building it's the beginning of the end. Not only a sort of city erosion but more a loss of personality. I fear the future for this beautifull city. Very well seen, Richard
Ps: I added a WS to show you maximum restauration until almost identical. Just for Fun!
