Austerlitz view of the castle, seen from the park.

The chateau of Slavkov (Austerlitz German) is situated in Okres Vyskov Slavkov in the Czech Republic. Especially famous castle and town of Slavkov by the battle of Austerlitz.

At the site of the castle was originally built a fort at the beginning of the 12th Century by the Teutonic Knights was built here and built the largest Moravian coming. The fort was the beginning of the 16th Century, the Moravian nobility of Kaunitz, which served as a residence. Ulrich von Kaunitz had the castle rebuilt into a renaissance. End of the 17th Century it was rebuilt to plans by the Italian architect Domenico Martinelli in the Baroque style and 50 years later completed by Wenzel Anton Kaunitz by Ignacio Valmaggini Petruzzi and Wenzel.

The U-shaped palace has 115 rooms. Local attractions include the Hall of Ancestors and the Rubens room (without the works of Peter Paul Rubens) and the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. The oval Social Hall (Historical Hall) has a spatial and acoustic original and contains rare frescoes of the Viennese painter Joseph Pichler. In this room was after the battle of Austerlitz on 6 December 1805 the armistice signed between France and Austria.

The castle houses a historical museum in the vaults as well as a multimedia entertainment to the battle of Austerlitz.

The Castle in the extent of 15 hectares was created in 1774 in line with the Palace of Versailles as a French baroque garden and in the 19th Century English style changed. Recently, the original Baroque form was restored.

200 years ago, a small insignificant village in Moravia, became famous at a stroke: Austerlitz. Through this battle, the name of Napoleon Bonaparte was to achieve immortality. Bonaparte was already known and feared throughout Europe, but only after Austerlitz, the European royal families, it became clear that they themselves were not sufficiently united to fight the ambitious Corsican.

At Austerlitz, the armies of France, Austria and Russia clashed. All three emperors, Napoleon, Francis and Alexander, were the battle directly or in close proximity. Therefore Austerlitz was received as a "Three Emperors" in history.

Even his biggest critics have to admit that he aground at Austerlitz in his top form and simultaneously have the best French army could this time. After the battle of Austerlitz, the map of Europe had to be redrawn.

A superb neoclassical view of the attractive grounds & architecture of the castle. Good sharpness, and superb warm cold color contrasts. Tfs!

Hi Adrian,
A nice colorful architcture well presented accompanied by the monument on the left!
Not so happily lighted but you managed to use all the available lighting and created a pleasing composition.
Nice blue sky heading this chateau!
A very neat presentation!
