The village of Saint-Georges-de-Didonne is in the southwest of the department of Charente-Maritime, in the ancient province of Saintonge. The village is located at the entrance of the estuary of Gironde.

Saint-Georges-de-Didonne is located on the coastal region Atlantic, in 5 kilometres in the southeast of Royan, 60 kilometres in the south of Rochelle and in a hundred of kilometres north of Bordeaux.

The headlight of Vallières forms a stone square tower of size. It replaces one, built in 1860 in order to road the access to the harbour under way. However, his weak height - barely 8 metres - make it fast obsolete.

In 1898, the municipality asks that the harbour is equipped with a true headlight: it entrusts jobs to the assistant engineer of Bridges and Put on Émile Gabaud, who raises plans, while realization is the work of the businessman Brunet.

Harmed during battles of 1945, the headlight is partly rebuilt postwar period. It is electrified in 1947.
