| [Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista |
The Cacyreus marshalli an African species which has been accidentally imported into parts of Europe in deliveries of cultivated pelargoniums, the foodplant of the caterpillars. Observations began in the 1990's in France, where the butterfly has spread rapidly and now established itself in most of the southern half of the country. Unlike other species, it is almost exclusively an urban butterfly as the females lay their eggs on cultivated pelargoniums. These plants are used extensively to decorate window sills and flower beds in virtually all villages and towns throughout the country, undoubtedly facilitating the spread of the species. This butterfly is unmistakable with its chocolate brown uppersides, chequered fringes and tails. The undersides are a complex pattern of cream, brown, black and white markings....
