Hello (again) Nana-S,

I can understand that your recent photos make some people raise their eyebrows ;o).

I somehow like your experiments on colour and composition within a square format.
The rather strange composition of this photo makes me think of a certain kind of contemporary architecture, in which windows are no longer placed in a regular order, but randomly. Moreover, they are of different and sometimes contradictory shapes. I suppose you know these kind of buildings. In Europe, we have more and more examples of them.
Just like these buildings, your "provoke" us, the viewers, with your composition. As it does not correspond with what we are used to see, we start questioning it. But perhaps we should also question our traditional views...
Said this, whereas I like the space (also "figurative" space) your compo leaves between the father and his son, I personally would have cropped the photo a little more at the left side, as to show us no water at all behind the boy.

I'm less convinced by your colours, though. Okay, it's experimentation, but to me, in this case, you hesitate too much between natural colours and bright colours. Result: they look a bit too "ordinarily over-exposed". Have you thought of a high-key approach, pushing the bright tones really near to white and at the same time darkening the father and his son? I'd prefer that, I think.

Of course, this is only my personal opinion. Feel free to (dis)agree ;o).

TFS & kind regard,
Erik
