Some expert woodcarving, outside the Pyramid Lake Lodge near Jasper. The 2 bearcubs are at left & the protective mother is at right.

"The grizzly bear (Ursus arctos horribilis), also known as the silvertip bear, is a subspecies of brown bear (Ursus arctos) that generally lives in the uplands of western North America. This subspecies is thought to descend from Ussuri Brown Bears which crossed to Alaska 100,000 years ago, though they did not move south until 13,000 years ago.

Grizzlies are normally solitary active animals, but in coastal areas the grizzly congregates alongside streams, lakes, rivers, and ponds during the salmon spawn. Every other year, females (sows) produce one to four young (commonly two) which are small and weigh only about 500 grams (one pound). A sow is protective of her offspring and will attack if she thinks she or her cubs are threatened."

Hi Chris,
I notice some subtle changes in the pp work of your recent postings...much to my liking. The featured woodcarving of the grizzly is sharp and textured and looks attractive against the azure sky. Good work.

Hi Chris,

Excellent work capturing the intricate details and colors of these exquisite woodcarvings. I enjoy wooden folk art and it's amazing what these artists can do. I like the low POV and inclusion of the lodge in the background. TFS

Nice shot on this Chris! It has a CG look to it! I like the upwards view, makes the Grizzleys look huge! Nice control of light in the sky, it's not easy shooting UP!

Wow, that takes some carving!!
You have really sharp, textural details of the carvings and all displayed in a fine light.
Good, angled composition,

Hi Chris, Very fine photo to show this sort of carving, it would be a real art skill to do that for sure. The autumn tones beyond the bear are an asset and the image is well cropped. How tall is that large bear? maybe 12 feet? TFS. Murray.

Hi Chris,

The subject is well framed. The point of view is showing with precision the details and colors of the grizzly sculptures. The nice sky is sending a light which is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.
