| As I can not go out, because I recently had a knee surgery, I had to look around, in my house, to place a photo for today´s theme. And what better than a person who has been working for me for more than 20 years. She is quiet, honest, loyal, and always happy. I can not say that I am 100% Mexican, because my ancestors were from England, France, Ireland and Spain. But Magda, my domestic employee, is 100% Mexican. She is bilingual. Her language family is "Nahualt". "Nahualt" has been spoken in Central Mexico since at least 7th century AD. It was the language of the Aztecs. "Nahualt" along with other indigenous languages of Mexico are recognized as national languages in the region where they are spoken, enjoying the same status as Spanish within their region. English words of "Nahualt" origin include: avocado, chili, chocolate, coyote and tomato. I had been blessed with Magda in my home. It is amazing how many things we can learn from people than have no high studies. Her education came from her home. Her mother, who just recently died, was like a queen; very proud of her origin. When she first came here, she was afraid of hot water, electric appliances, etc. but she was more educated than many College students. She has had all the important basic knowledge that a good life requires. |
