Today I drove to the Central Plataeu again, taking advantage of the brilliant winter sunshine we are currently experiencing in New Zealand. I took this photo of Mount Ruapehu heading towards the small town of Waiouru.

Mount Ruapehu is an active volcano located at the southern end of the Taupo volcanic zone in New Zealand North Island. It is 23 kilometres northeast of Ohakune and 40 kilometres southwest of the southern shore of Lake Taupo, within the Tongariro National Park on the Central Plataeu.

Ruapehu is one of the world's most active volcanoes and the largest active volcano in New Zealand. It is the highest point in the North Island and has a deep crater lake containing rainwater and snowmelt.

Hi Martyn,
Outstanding shot! Such a refreshing view. The pylons stand out well against the bright white mountains, good DOF from f/11. I like the way you've cropped this, and also the presentation with the slim cinematic bars. Impressive photo.

TFS,
Scott.

Hi Martyn,

The pylons are highlighted well against the perfect lighting of the mountain contrasted well by the foreground. I love it.

Doug

Nice landscape Martyn - sharp, nice horizontal banding which works well. I would personally remove some of the sky and crop tighter to the mountains to give a more panoramic feel.. What do you reckon?

Cheers
David

Hi Martyn,
Excelent capture of this snowy area! Brightness and contrast is spot on, fine compistion while even the high power lines aren't even disturbing here, it's part of the scenery. Fine posting Martyn!
Hans

What a contrast between the green hills and Ruapehu and what a layer of snow, I have never seen it that heavy. The pylons add perspective to the photo. Good stuff.

dear Martyn,
this contrast between natural snow-covered mountains and artificial electric towers is very unique and surprising.
in common those towers are noisy and obstacle to the natural view,
but in this your shot, those look elegant,
because those are little and thin, and lined interestingly.
maybe fore round mild hill makes white wild mountain and queer shape of towers nice panoramic view on the stage of the hill.
thank you for your excellent shot,
Akihisa

Spectacular capture of this iconic mountain. I love the low mist/cloud at its base - and the contrasting green-blue below and above.

Jeez though we know how to ruin a good scene by throwing pylons across the landscape, don't we!
