[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista
Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu opened on 10 May, 2003 in the heart of the city's cultural precinct, bounded by Worcester Boulevard, Gloucester and Montreal Streets. The new $47.5 million facility features two floors of exhibition space, two educational activity areas, an auditorium, a café and wine bar, two retail outlets, a Sculpture Garden and underground parking.

The name ‘Te Puna’ honours waipuna, the well spring (the actual artesian spring on the site) and ‘Waiwhetu’ refers to one of the tributaries in the immediate vicinity, which flows into the Avon River. ‘Waiwhetu’ may also be translated as ‘water in which stars are reflected’.

I have visited now twice, and loved the building, the staff, and the incredible exhibits. What drew me this day was the Cecil Beaton portaits exhibition. "The glamorous worlds of fashion, literature and film meet in this major international exhibition of one of the most celebrated British portrait photographers of the 20th century." It was incedible, I spent 2 hours, then returned for another later in the day.

Besides this, the building is a photographers dream. Cheers, Karey.

very interesting architecture, background sky and POV. thanks for sharing.

Yikes. I just had a look at the Art Gallery web page and finally found a full pic of the building, no not being nasty, your terrific photo got me curious as I left Christchurch in 1982 and have only been back once for 10 days in 1984.Boy have there been changes.
Thank you so much for this, I wouldnt have seen the change if you had not put this in.

Excellent POV Karey. Looking upwards like this, straining your neck - good shot! As good as your Marilyn photo I think...
Well done,
Janice

Great editors note, thanks for that. I love the angle that you have got on the building. I would love to know what sort of camera and lens you were using to get this effect.

Hi there!
Superb architecture pic!
Love the curves and the sky reflecting on the windows. Lovely colours too! Add to that superb composition and we have a winner!
The owners of the building should pay you for this photo to use as advertising material!
Well done!
