Hi,

This shot was taken on the West Coast of New Zealand's south island, and is at the end of the road. You cannot drive any further north than this river, up the west coast. On the otherside of the river is unspoiled wilderness, with a trail through the bush that will take you around the coast, eventually to Nelson. Unfortunatly I didn't have time to walk any of the route, but I can image it is brilliant, walking through sub-tropical rainforests that have not been subjected to any form of human interference.

The River is the Kohaihai and the image is taken with the tide coming in and eroding away the sandy banks. You can see the typical west coast surf beyond.

It brought to mind a song by Hank Locklin, in that nothing or no-one can change time or the tide! Aa apt posting for New Year!

The lyrics go:
"Time nor tide will never change its way love like mine goes on day after day
True as stars that twinkle in the blue time nor tide won't change my love for you
Though the changing years may gray your golden hair
In my eyes you'll always be as sweet and fair
Like like ours will never be denied makes no difference what the time or tide

Time nor tide may bring us grieve and pain but there's sunshine after every rain
Trust your love to always see you through
Time nor tide won't change my love for you
Hand in hand we'll face the future come what may
Side by side we'll find the rainbows in some day
In our hearts a love song will abide makes no difference what the time or tide. (Hank Locklin)

Dedicated to all TL members everywhere,

Un saludo, JL
And happy new year 2007!!!

Hello Mike!

This is what I call Choppy waters (^_^). Surfing there in these conditions must be impossible. Cool composition with this dramatic seashore.

well seen and captured.

All the best to you and your family for 2007!
Robert

Hi John
Fantastic capture of light and textures, and the frozen motion of the surf. Beautiful sky. Very well composed.
All great work!

Nice sceen well captured. Good POV and DOF. The sand looks a little too sharpened. That could also come from compression to get onto site.
I like the foamy surf and the colors you captured in it.
Simple black frame sets off the shot nicely.
Good lighting.

Hello John,
great effect and dynamism well done,
Nelson

Nicely done, Johnny, enjoyed the shot and the note though my bag was empty. Be nice to see the continuation of the path on the other side of the river. I would certainly like to take that path, would be a lovely hike.

Hello John,
A wonderful capture--the action of the water is amazing, and the effects of the water are seen on the bank. I love the colors of the sky, and the colors reflected in the water. Nice detail!
All the best,
Karen

This is rough! Good shot John, the water looks so real. Those banks must come and go, changing their shape all year long. Well done,
Janice

Well seen, well composed and well taken - lovely shot of the surf and really captures some of the essence of waves rolling onto a beach.
Thanks for sharing
Mark
