[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista
It was a dreary day here in Auckland on Monday, so I decided to go on a hunt for something to photograph in my backyard. This passionflower caught my eye, as it’s strangely different. It creeps along the fence, as apposed to growing like a normal tree. I set up my tripod and used manual focus to make sure the flower was focused just how I wanted it. There was very little post-processing work applied to this image.

The passionflower was used historically in South America and later in Europe as a calming herb for anxiety, insomnia, seizures, and hysteria, and is still used nowadays. It may not be the best looking flower out there, but will soon develop into a delicious passionfruit. The juice is commonly used as flavouring for beverages and sauces.

Bonjour Scott.
Une fleur qui présente un extraordinaire graphisme et une bonne variation dans le contraste.
Un travail photographique bien complété avec une explication.
Merci du partage.
Bonne journée.
Urs

Scott,

You have a nice composition here. The flowe's colors are not as strong as other flowers, but its shape is something noteworthy
Here in South America, we do have lots of passion fruit trees, mostly covering verandas or porchs. A friend of mine has a plantation of passion fruit at his farm that was confused by police (via satellite photo) with a cannabis plantation. hey went to the farm and my friend invite them to drink the pseudo-cannabis juice.

Cheers,
Wellington

Hello, Scott -
This bizarre flower was a fantastic find, and you captured its creepiness wonderfully. All of the details are visible in the soft light and the are very sharp. The slightly blurred leaves make a great background. Nice off-center placement. Well done.

SCott this is first class my friend the details are excellent grt dof and first class focusing tfs

Yeah, these are very unusual flowers Scott. I've grown them in my yard too, but not this particular variety with the wavy little hairy things!
Really nice composition, and I really like the soft light too .. not too harsh. Great job
Cheers

Hi Scott,

An excellent floral macro that you have appropriately titled. Superb framing and sharpness and the subdued lighting works well to give depth to the coloring. TFS

Hi Scott..nice shot...perfect light and details.

This is incredibly sharp Scott! Nice DOF you managed here. I think F5.6 is the best for this with the focal length at 300mm. That deep green BG is so nice here! Really love your work! You are so talented!

This is what I imagine a Triffid to look like. The offset flower and almost diagonal stem works well.

Good shot.

Great photo Scott, that is living up to your title "sharp shooter" encouraging for me to think my 450D can do the same quality photo.

Hi Scott,
great macro,
perfect clarity.Beautiful harmony of the colurs.TFS.Necla.

Hi Scott

It is an ideal macro with such a razor-sharp fine points
The colors are realistic and natural; the green tone of background creates pleasant harmony with the greenish heart of the plant, well done

TFS, Alireza

Hi Scott,

Great macro capture of the passion flower with superb details! The sharpness is crisp and to go for an off-centered position for the subject, was indeed a superb idea. The colors are completely natural and the shallow DOF works very well here. The blurry green BG adds another piece of beauty to this great job.

Have a nice weekend!

best greetings,
Paras

Hello Scott,

Hey Scott,

It sound like passionflower grow wild in NZ. I am so jealous as they are a favorite plant. Seeing this reminds me that I need to dig up and re-pot the passionflowers I bought last spring - after all they are quite exotic and expensive where I live. Your title is appropriate. The floral features are sharp and attractive. Good work. Cheers.

Danilo

Hi Scott,
