Louis Vuitton is Back in Auckland, New Zealand

The Louis Vuitton Pacific Series (Jan. 31 - Feb. 14)
has been organised to get sailors back out on the water while the America's Cup remains in limbo because of a legal battle between Alinghi and Oracle. A New York appeal court is in the process of deciding what will be the final judgement in the case.

Team New Zealand beat BMW Oracle in yachting's Louis Vuitton Pacific Series on Auckland's Hauraki Gulf today.

Team NZ led BMW Oracle around the first mark by 14 seconds. Although Oracle briefly took the lead on the second upwind beat, Team New Zealand rounded the final mark in front and won by 27 seconds.

I was fortunate to be out on the harbour to watch the 4 races that were held today. And what a super day it was.

The cloudy skies make it look like it was a dull day – they were mostly over the land, but we had blue sky with clouds coming over which really helped us cool down on top of the boat.

There was a good breeze – it got up to maybe 19 knots by the last race.

I also took lots of photos of the many sea craft that were out on the water too. There were some very interesting boats and people out there...

For this Louis Vuitton Pacific series there were 10 teams and only 4 boats - Team NZ provided 2 and OracleBMW the other 2. Hence the advertising on both boats.

You can tell by the paintwork on the bow of each boat as to whether the boat belongs to Team NZ or Oracle.

Here Team NZ is sailing in OracleBMW's boat and Oracle is in TNZ's boat

Hi Janice,
Superb sail impression! Excellent lighting, the sails look so nice bright against the cloudy sky in the background! Excellent sharp too, I can read everything on the sails. Great capture of this unique sail event.
Hans

YES, good one Team New Zealand! :-)

Good to hear you enjoyed your day on the water Janice, it would have been exciting being out there...

Nice clarity here, and well composed.

Super shot Janice! Your photo skills show here, no OE, despite the sun and white sails! Love how they are fully extended in the wind! This is a great shot, looks like a very fun time had by all!

I would say that is beautiful capture! nice work Janice.
That remind me song "Sailing" by Rod Steward...
I hate that many commercial logos on it - but well... money, money, money.
Thank you for sharing - it is impressive.
Tom:)

Impressive shot Janice. Must have been exciting to be out amongst the big boats in the Gulf. Beautifully exposed and plenty of shutter speed to give a sharp result! Well done and TFS,
Cheers, Pat.
