Dabo is a small village, located right in the center of mosellanes Vosges, between Sarrebourg, Phalsbourg and Saverne. The vast territory of the village stretches over the west mountainside of the vosgien massif, in its sandstone part.
The emblem of the locality, the rock of Dabo, culminates in 647 metres, in the right of a summit of sandstone. He owes her elevation to a sandstone more indurated by the presence of detrital elements of type pebbles:differential erosion therefore did not succeed in overcoming so easily this more resistant sandstone.
The castle of Dabo was shaved in 1679 on order of Louis XIV and on Louvois, his state minister.
The rock remained bare during one and a half century, then a chapel dedicated to Saint IX was established on the same place in 1825. Further to bad weather, the building was demolished in 1889 and rebuilt in Romance style with addition of a tower which will act as belvedere (according to wishes of Strieve, founder of the Club Vosgien).
A French-German informal summit was held on July 19th, 1983 in Dabo between the president Mitterrand and the chancellor Kohl. |
