...that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.-- Soft you now!
The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd.
[William Shakespeare, Hamlet, Act III, Scene 1]

*************************************************
All this poetry is to introduce you to Kronborg Castle. What have this castle to do with Shakeapeare's Hamlet? that's a big question mark. Some believe that during his desapearence from English court, Shakespeare was indeed in Danmark and there he got inspiration for his play. but no proof was ever found...
Now the History:
In 1268, King Erik Glipping started to build a castle as protection against the Duchy of Schleswig. It was named Koldinghus Castle. Christoffer of Bavaria built a new red-brick north wing in 1447 and Christian I added the west wing in approx. 1475. The south and east wings were built by Christian III and Queen Dorothea 1536-59. Koldinghus Castle Castle became Christian III and Dorothea’s residence her death in 1571. The characteristic profile of the castle stems from around 1600, when Christian IV raised the north wing by one storey and built the Giant's Tower. The castle was also damaged during the Dano-Swedish Wars of 1657-60, but it was rebuilt immediately after the peace treaty was signed. In 1808, the castle burnt down and Frederik VI subsequently decided not to rebuild the castle and let it remain a ruin. From 1976-91, the state, Vejle County and Kolding Municipality conducted extensive restoration of Koldinghus Castle.

A bit hot on the window but a great image with mood. Well done Stefania. B

Love the hues Stef, specially on the floor tiles. Quite a sombre picture.

Hi Stef!
oh, Elsinor...did you know that the architect who made the project for Sydney Opera House was inspired by this castle? Shame on me, but I can't remember his name. Your photo is lovely, you chose great angle and the light creates a nice atmoshere.
thanks for reminding me of my exam called "Shakespearology" with his soliloqy in your notes! and of the horrible professor :/ (just kidding)
regards,
Marija :))

What a restful picture Stef...when you look to it the stress run away from my body ;-) Yuo captured it very well, my compliments.

I love the ambiance Stefania.

Beautiful captured Stef... I love the mood... The shadows are amazing and U have got it very well... Nice composition. Looks very relaxing... :) Great medium :) Thanks for sharing this wonderful one and the text is amazing... :)

Take care...
- Hima.

It gives me a bit of an obscure feeling.
The setting: so empty but so full of a strange atmosphere.
The empty chair. There's history in this place.

I like the light on the floortiles and on the ceiling.
A good graphic-like shot,
groet,
Joop.

Thanks for sharing Stefania
-----------------------
Comte, sois de mon prince à présent gouverneur;
Ce haut rang n'admet point un homme sans honneur;
[Pierre Corneille - Le Cid - Acte I scène IV]

Sergio

Very impressive Stefania.
Lonelines and depression in this mood; but that's my perception.
I like what you did.

Hi Stefania

A good tonal range in this excellent b&w image. The lighting & graphism are superb.

Very nice moody shot. The grey tones are good.

Hi Stef,
Nice composition, although I think the picture is a little bit dark. On the otherhand I don't know if you could have corrected it because then the light from the window would have been too bright.

Not only a lovely and well composed image, with great balanced lighting but a wonderful and informative note, TFS.
Vassilis

There might have been something rotten in the state of Denmark but there is absolutely nothing bad in this pic :).
Nice, sort of "empty" shot, gives a feeling of being in deep thought musch like the quote.

Again!!! Stef.... this is something beautiful.. I'm glad to see such beautiful composition here on TL!! and the note gives more to it! TfS
cheers

quite dramatic....

I like your style.Pascal

...that is the question...

I just bought the complete works of Shakespeare this afternoon, I have to admit I'm rather giddy about reading it all.

I really like the composition within your imge, it seems to portray the the room we all have situated within our minds... a chair for one, and a window to look through- the eyes. Interesting note... a little humane and a little history- I like it. :)

Stefanie this is a true masterpiece, you should be proud!

Biance.
