[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista
...is a very difficult job, I think. At least it looks that way in Antwerp...

On one of my strolls I came across a square called "Boogkeers", and I noticed these buildings. The left is a remnant of Antwerp's past, whereas the right is a very modern building. Now, I like both styles, I really do. But seeing them stand next to one another like here, I feel something that comes very close to disgustment. Who on earth delivered the building licence of that modern building ? Well, I think in the Middle-Ages people were sent to the Pillory for less ;o).

After I sat down on a bench to calm down, and I had taken a couple of deep breaths, I thought this would be a good entry for the contrasts theme of the current scavenger hunt.

Tech talk

Used MS Digital Image Pro's vertical perspective distortion tool to correct a bit of the wide-angle lens distortion.

Downsized for TL as per usual (see my previous pictures for details).

Hi Frank,
Real contrast etween these 2 architectures !
Well seen.
I noticed this in Antwerp where I go sometimes because my best friend, a Dutch guy, is living there.
Sylvie

Well captured and seen Frank, a great view from the past and present. Look forward to seeing more of your work.
Regards
chris

Sometimes the newer buildings are errected next to the older ones here in Canada too. It's a shame, but that's progression. This is a great entry for the contrast hunt Frank.

Spot on Frank, city views almost hurt the eye when we talk about contrast. I'd prefer the old building style but they don't build this sort of constructions these days. The right building, I agree with you, looks attractive but should be among other modern buildings.

What the reason could be to place it here is just because of the contrast, the buildings don't and should not blend. In this way the two types of construction are respected and combained. Imagine if the new building would be in concrete colored modern style, now that would make a dull view.

To conclude, sometimes it's better to create a huge contrast then to blend things that just can't be alike. Above all the new building could be a reason to restore the old building to its former beauty.
Good eye Frank, see you again, Richard

Good entry for the hunt Frank, the contrast is very obvious here ..Nice colors

I couldn't agree more with you Frank.
And this is a very moderate example !
The contrast is multiple : in style, in colour and age.
Well seen and framed !

(closing in on me ? ;-))

(nvdr.

Hi Frank

A well seen clash of architectural styles. This problem is not unique to Belgium. The same crticism has been levelled at Australian cities, too. The bright red does overpower the streetscape. Good work!

I see a lot of this in the cities I visit here in the US and I feel the same way. I think there should be some law against this.
